Who will be Ohio State’s QB vs. Texas? Redshirt freshman takes lead in Buckeyes QB battle
Who will be at quarterback for Ohio State on Aug. 30 when the Buckeyes host the Texas Longhorns at the Horseshoe in Columbus, OH? A winner of the Ohio State QB battle looks to be emerging.
Last season, Kansas State transfer Will Howard was brought in to give Ohio State stability at QB. Howard certainly provided that, leading the Buckeyes to the national championship. But this season, the Buckeyes are starting over at QB and there are three players battling for the job right now.
Redshirt freshman Julian Sayin, redshirt sophomore Lincoln Kienholz and true freshman Tavien St. Clair are each vying for the starting role. Although the battle seems to really be between Sayin and Kienholz. It has been a close battle throughout spring and fall.
But now that we’re just two weeks from kickoff against the Longhorns, OSU coach Ryan Day knows they need to settle on one. But he won’t name a starter until he’s ready. “I won’t predict when we’ll make this decision,” Day said.
According to On3’s Pete Nakos, it is starting to look like Sayin will be the Buckeyes signal caller in a couple weeks against the Longhorns. “Sources have given the slight edge to this point in fall camp, but the separation between the former five-star recruit and is not wide enough to this point for Day to name a starting quarterback,” Nakos wrote.
