Projecting Ohio State football’s starting offense heading into fall camp
COLUMBUS, Ohio — Ohio State heads into fall camp having to replace all but three of its Day 1 starts on offense from 2024, plus its offensive coordinator.
After years of recruiting and developing wide receivers better than anyone else, Brian Hartline takes over as the play-calling offensive coordinator.
Hartline’s position group might again be home to the nation’s best starting trio. Even the depth behind them is filled with guys who could probably start at all 17 other Big Ten programs. But everywhere else is unproven talent that comes with a ton of optimism.
But that optimism will have to quickly turn into something productive given the quality of the Buckeyes’ season-opening opponent.

Kienholz made this interesting in the spring. He did his part to make this an actual competition and honestly looked better in two of the three times the public got to see them in a competitive environment. But the spring game is like that one exam in college that the professor tells you is worth 40% of your grade. Sayin was the by far better quarterback that day. Mix that with the momentum he already came into the spring with, and we’re back where we were before those 15 spring practices, thinking it’s his job to lose.
Punctuating that home in fall camp isn’t necessarily about talent, but about intangibles. Did Sayin use the summer to start taking command of the locker room? It’s the only missing piece to this and potentially what’s keeping head coach Ryan Day from naming anyone QB1.
