Reason why Sam Pendleton said no matter where his playing, his parents should be there cheering him on
As part of the countdown to kickoff for University of Tennessee football, WSMV spending the month of August profiling 30 UT football players in ‘30 Days 30 Vols’. The segments air on WSMV’s 6:30 p.m. and 10 p.m. newscasts.
Offensive Lineman Sam Pendleton is #28 on the countdown.Pendleton transferred to Tennessee after two seasons at Notre Dame.
Originally recruited by Tennessee, Pendleton has three seasons of eligibility remaining.
He said no matter where he’s playing, his parents are there cheering him on.
“My parents have been so supportive for the whole thing,” he said. “Even when I was at Notre Dame, they were so happy to come up. They drove up to all the games— 12 hours. My parents have supported me for everything I’ve done, so to be close to home is way better too, and who doesn’t like Knoxville?”
Pendleton’s parents tend to be the kings of the tailgate, but they’re not always relaxing or watching football.
“I live on a beef farm in North Carolina,” Pendleton said. “My dad runs a feed business. We work on the farm. My mom, she stays at home. She does a lot of housework: making eggs, bread, and stuff like that. Some weeks during the week you’re hanging out with the cattle, and on weekends, 102,000 people in Neiland Stadium.”
He’ll be spending his weekends in 2025 playing for those thousands of fans in Knoxville.
