Gabriel Jesus capped off an excellent week of football with a brace against Crystal Palace, making it his first time to score in the Premier League since January. This was a match that Arsenal won impressively 5:1.
Earlier in the week, Jesues had a good outing against the same opposition when he scored a hat-trick in the EFL Cup. He played the starring role again marking his return for the Brazilian.
The two goals on Saturday meant that Jesus became the first man to score five goals in consecutive appearances for the Gunners since Robin van Persie in February 2011.
In only the sixth minute, he opened the scoring, giving a finished ball at the back post after Bukayo Saka’s cross passed to him via one touch from Gabriel Magalhaes, ending a 23-match Premier League run without goals for the former Manchester City forward.
Ismaila Sarr leveled soon after with a brilliant curling finish from just inside the box which capped off a wonderful passage of play, but Arsenal were ahead again just three minutes later thanks to Jesus.
This time, a typical Arsenal corner was causing havoc in the Palace defence with Thomas Partey setting up Jesus for the controlled strike into the top-right corner.
In the 38th minute, Jesus almost made it for his first-half hat-trick when a header came off the post, but Kai Havertz was around to make it 3-0 for Arsenal.
Barely a minute after this instance, any hope that the Palace Team had of making a comeback was dashed. Jesus missed yet another hat-trick chance shooting straight to Dean Henderson but then Declan Rice, who came on as a substitute, managed to scuff and turn the ball into the net against Gabriel Martinelli.
At the end of the contest, Rice scored a beautiful goal into the bottom right corner off an 18-yard strike.
After criticism for being too dependent on set-pieces and having a perceived lack of creative threat in open play, this is a real statement win for Arsenal.
Victorious, they move above Nottingham Forest and into third, only a point behind Chelsea and three adrift of Liverpool, both of whom play on Sunday.
