Ohio State 4-star 2027 target is a two-way talent from Georgia
CLEVELAND, Ohio – When a high school running back reaches 1,000 yards for a season, you call him a good player. When he does that as just a sophomore, you call him a potentially great college recruit.
When he dominates as a running back on offense, is able to catch passes and return kick offs, and can defend opposing offenses as a free safety, you call him Caden Waye, a four-star running back at Ola High School in McDonough, Georgia, who received an offer from Ohio State on May 5.
As someone who grew up in Georgia, Waye said the Midwest atmosphere stood out to him most during his visit to Columbus. He said the culture throughout the entire state surrounds Ohio State football, and that everything was oriented to support the Buckeyes, even outside of Columbus.
Waye first spoke with running back coach Carlos Locklyn, who visited Ola when he made the offer to Waye. Throughout the process, Locklyn has kept in contact with him, sending him daily scriptures and answering any questions the running back may have.
Dustin Adkins, the head coach at Ola, played collegiate football at Dartmouth. He said he understands the recruiting process and how coaches will behave, and he said Locklyn seemed authentic.
“Just being around him, he seems like he’s a very genuine person,” Adkins said. “I understand how the recruiting game goes. It’s almost like you’re courting a woman: Everything’s going to be the best foot forward. It’s the honeymoon stage. I said, ‘You just got to decipher what the real expectations [are].’ Once you get into fall camp, good luck.”
