Ohio State football’s depth chart may be different than projected: ‘Who ends up starting, we’ll see’
The seventh-year head coach noted Siereveld’s size and praised his work ethic, which was celebrated with Iron Buckeye honors earlier this month.
Siereveld had spent time at both tackle spots early in the spring. However, as the spring season rolled into the offseason and then into preseason camp, it appeared Siereveld had solidified himself as the starting right tackle with former Rice transfer Ethan Onianwa at left tackle.
That is no longer the case, with Day saying Siereveld has been working, “exclusively” at left tackle on Monday — 19 days before Ohio State’s opener vs. Texas.
“The idea of a primary and a secondary (position) I think is going to really pay dividends down the road,” Day said, “but it’s important, as we get closer to this first game, for guys to really dig in and get the majority of their snaps at where they’re going to play.”
Day has stressed a need for versatility along the offensive line, especially after Ohio State was forced to shuffle around its unit due to injuries last season.
