Who are the top ‘Freaks’ for Penn State football? Lions land 5 on 2025 list

Penn State football may have the top running back combination in college football.Certainly, it should be led by one of the nation’s top defenses, again. And it now boasts its highest preseason ranking in three decades.

The most astonishing athletes in the country?Once again, the Nittany Lions score well there, too, according to The Athletic’s Bruce Feldman and his widely-popular, preseason “Freak’s List.”

The Lions have helped rule the annual ranking with crazy-good performers like Saquon Barkley, Odafe Oweh, Micah Parsons and Abdul Carter.

This time, Penn State places five in the top 101, released on Monday. The top two Lions are making their third appearance in Feldman’s ranking:

Zane Durant may be Penn State’s most impressive but least unheralded performers on the field. No All-Big honors last fall?

Well, he makes Feldman’s list for the third season − this time in the Top 10 − because of his outlandish combination of speed (4.6-second, 40-yard dash; 21.1 mph velocity), explosion (30.5-inch vertical jump) and power (425-pound bench press, 660-pound squat).Durant is a low-center-gravity wrecking ball at 6-foot-1 and 295 pounds.
