More than a month has passed since Jennifer Lopez announced her intention to divorce Ben Affleck on the second anniversary of their marriage, and as it seems, the divorce process will be a very messy and costly affair. No prenup has been made. However, a week ago, the estranged couple surprised many by showing their faces at a family event – and, as was later revealed, did so in a very affectionate manner.
J.Lo, 55, and Ben, 52, were having a family brunch along with their kids at the Beverly Hills Hotel in Los Angeles which could mean that the troubled couple may resolve their complicated legal and financial dealings in a more civil way. The couple sitting next to their children was also reported by some of the restaurant’s patrons to have engaged in some hand-holding.
Heat’s sources claim that J.Lo still believes that her estranged husband will figure out how much he stands to lose and will, once again, attempt to win her back. And considering there are also pictures of the two looking worried outside the event and conversing in the vehicle, it is safe to say Ben is not the hand-holding type of guy that will easily be swayed.
Someone who spoke to us noted, “The meet-up was all Jennifer’s doing – it was her who maintained that the kids need to be shown that everything is alright between them, and for that, they had to meet. Over the past few years, they’ve all grown fond of one another and she’s simply trying to prevent any excess pain from being inflicted upon them.”
The source continues by indicating ‘while Jen was attempting to hold it in and put on a brave face in public, she’s been quite weak behind the scenes and has confessed to missing Ben terribly. Divorcing him was not publicized because she wanted him back, but she came out hoping that it would provoke him to action to save their marriage. So the fact that he’s still so keen on proceeding with the divorce is very painful.’
In addition, the couple must also make sure and reach an agreement concerning the division of their joint assets which stands at £489 million – with the absence of a prenup making matters worse. Still, if there’s one thing that J.Lo has had practice in doing over the course of the year, it is wearing a brave face while everything around her went into disarray, including her marriage.
The duo had a brief romantic involvement in 2021, as the couple had previously been engaged in the year 2003 which they later broke off but this time round, they wed in summer, 2022. However, when W’dasai C’s ex-husband Dorse Chia explained their relationship after the breakup scandal theorized that they had parted ways in spring season – less than months after married found praise in her self-funded documentary The Greatest Love Story Never Told marriage, the pop star kept quiet.
But it appears that it was becoming increasingly difficult to avoid clues that indicated there was discord between the two celebrities. In May, it was reported that Ben had vacated the couple’s Beverly Hills home, and the house was put up for sale, as well as that Jennifer had been seen on a self-centered retreat in Italy. There was also the unsparing fact that J.Lo’s birthday party in July was not attended by Ben, thus it was more than obvious that the two had parted ways.
Finally in August, J.Lo filed for divorce 20 years after they had originally called off their wedding. However, in the court filings, it was indicated that the couple separated in April, thus implying that Jen tried her level best to save the marriage.
It’s easy to see why J.Lo is hopeful. After all, the two of them have intertwined their lives completely thanks to the years and attempts they have spent together, the coming back together of the two myriads was understood to be a confirmation of the permanence of the relationship.
The two also made plans for the future by introducing their children to each other, Max and Emme, J.Lo’s 16-year-old twins with her ex Marc Anthony, and Ben’s 18-year-old daughter Violet, his 15-year-old son Fin and 12-year-old Samuel from his previous marriage to Jennifer Garner.
“According to our insider who spoke regarding this reunion, J. Lo wanted to ‘light something up’ in Ben to help him understand what he was losing. However it is not so much what she is come to terms with, it is the very opposite that she is struggling with.
‘He’s showed zero interest in maintaining any sort of relationship let alone trying to save the marriage,’ the sources says. ‘Jen has been hanging on to something which is very much over-she just has to accept it and move on.’”
