Viktor Gyokeres is one of the most talked-about and wanted forwards in European football today and available for a great cut-price cost.
The Sporting Lisbon forward just continued his blistering form into the season by scoring a hat-trick in their 4-1 Champions League victory over Manchester City on Tuesday.
That made his totals skyrocket to an unbelievable 27 in just 21 games both for Sporting and Sweden this season.
Gyokeres has an 83 million pound release clause but would go for closer to 63 million euros; interest in him is coming from all over continental Europe’s biggest clubs.
He looks set to be one of the hottest properties in the transfer market next summer if he keeps up his brilliant form. So where might the 26-year-old end up?
Arsenal
Gyokeres told the Swedish sports newspaper Sportsbladet in September, “Of course, you aim to try other leagues and a higher level, but I have no stress.”
Another of the clubs linked with Gyokeres is Arsenal.
Some believe a marquee No.9 could be the piece to the puzzle in what they have going on in chasing their first title since 2004. Kai Havertz has done decent in leading the line this season, scoring seven goals through 15 games.
However, one of the building blocks needed by a club like Arsenal in the 21st century, as Ian Wright articulated in simply one telling post, “We need a killer”, wasn’t honored by a striker this past summer.
Gyokeres has been tracked by Arsenal, who failed to sign a striker in the summer and are looking to be in the market for a new striker next summer.
Even though Arsenal believes that the release clause of Gyokeres is very much high, it is reported on Sky Germany that Sporting allows him to depart next summer but will make between £50m and £80m in transfer fee.
Will stay at Sporting
So Gyokeres is likely to stay put and see it out till the end of the season with Sporting.
So far, ten wins and a perfect record make them favourites to renew their success in Portuguese football, and the Tuesday win over City suggests that they could go deep in the Champions League.
But Gyokeres may also decide that another season at Sporting next term is also beneficial for his development, or Sporting might not sanction a move.
Other options
Barcelona is another club linked to Gyokeres.
Reports from Spain note that Barca thinks that they might be able to do an around £50m-£60m deal involving a player plus cash, considering offloading Vitor Roque, who is on loan at Real Betis.
Gyokeres is said to be in Barca’s plans as a long-term replacement for 36-year-old Robert Lewandowski.
