Crystal Palace and Arsenal face off for a second time in the space of three days as these two teams meet in the Premier League at Selhurst Park on Saturday.
Three days after battling it out in the Carabao Cup semi-final, where Arsenal progressed with a Gabriel Jesus treble to win and make the march into the final four, the two teams met on Wednesday. The Eagles later thought they had a way back into the match only for Eddie Nketiah to spoil the fun, scoring against his old employers.
Arsenal will be hoping for two wins in a row against its south London rivals, but recent form in the Premier League has not been great. It came from two insipid draws against Fulham and Everton, resulting in a lost ground with Chelsea and Liverpool, so it’s not enough to bump either sitting up in the table.
In stark contrast, however, Palace’s recent league form has been phenomenal. They have clawed back some form after a slow start to the season and followed their respectable draw against reigning champions Manchester City with a brilliant A23 derby day triumph over Brighton and Hove Albion on their travels.
Arsenal have four injuries to their senior squad and they all are full-backs. Ben White and Takehiro Tomiyasu are both absent on the right-hand side of defense while Oleksandr Zinchenko and Riccardo Calafiori will complete the list on the left.
The midfielder may not have made Arsenal’s side on Wednesday because of a minor injury but is expected to return and take part in Saturday’s action.
Mikel Arteta would have wanted to keep all his squad fresh with a number of changes against Palace on Tuesday but will revert to his best eleven on Saturday. Martin Odegaard, William Saliba, Gabriel and Rice, fitness permitting, should return to the team.
On Wednesday, Jesus made a nice hat-trick that won the match, but he might be seated on the bench as Havertz is more preferred these days.
