This opened the gates for thousands of players with the college football transfer portal at the closure of the 2024 regular season.
While fans contended for glory in the national title game, they also turned their gazes towards the transfer portal to see what would happen between that of the Ohio State Buckeyes and the Notre Dame Fighting Irish.
On Saturday, one of the most intriguing names in the transfer portal, former Michigan Wolverines quarterback Alex Orji, announced his decision.
Orji committed to the UNLV Rebels of the Mountain West. As Orji takes his talents from the Big Ten to the Mountain West, he’ll be playing under first-year head coach Dan Mullen.

Upon the announcement of his commitment to UNLV, Orji shared his excitement about the opportunity to play under Mullen and offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach Corey Dennis.
“It felt like a great opportunity to go out to Vegas with Coach Mullen and Coach Dennis,” Orji said, per ESPN’s Pete Thamel. “It’s an opportunity to cultivate winning culture.”
Orji spent three years with the Michigan Wolverines, from 2022 to 2024. He started three games for the Wolverines in 2024, finishing the season with three touchdowns, two interceptions and 150 yards.
He also produced one touchdown and 269 yards on the ground.
In his three-year career at Michigan, Orji recorded three touchdowns and 155 yards with a 54.2 completion percentage. The dual-threat quarterback also tallied four touchdowns and 392 yards on 78 carries.
