Arsenal is reportedly on the verge of tapping Crystal Palace star Tyrick Mitchell, according to news from the Spanish top-order sport.

The 25-year-old made a senior debut in 2020 after being signed by the Eagles in 2016, and has since established himself as one of the key component players of this South London club.

Last season, he made five goal contributions and kept 10 clean sheets in 37 Premier League appearances. He also helped his team finish in the mid-table. It has now been registered that the defender has three assists and clean sheets in 17 league appearances so far this season.

However, he is now in the final few months of his current contract, so his long-term future at Selhurst Park hangs in the balance. While citing and translating the print version from Sport, Sport Witness reports that Arsenal are aiming to take him into their fold, taking advantage of his present condition.

The Gunners are not alone in pursuit of his signature as Tottenham Hotspur and Barcelona also intend to make a move for the defender.

Mitchell to Arsenal

On paper, Arsenal are well-stacked in their left-back position after the summer acquisition of Riccardo Calafiori from Bologna as they currently have Oleksandr Zinchenko, Myles Lewis-Skelly along with the Italian at their disposal for this role. Moreover, Jurrien Timber can play in this position seamlessly if needed.

However, Calafiori has been suffering from a string of injuries of late, and an even longer list of physical ailments has afflicted Zinchenko over the years. Lewis-Skelly has, for his part, just turned 18 and is very inexperienced at the highest levels of play.

Mitchell is a lucrative player to hire by Arsenal and will prove to be instrumental if they get him free but it raises one question of his possessing the required traits to help Mikel Arteta’s side meet these skyhigh ambitions.

However, it will be interesting to see if this North London club ends up moving for the Crystal Palace star to beef up their defensive department come January or next summer.

Arsenal have been inconsistent for the first half of this season, so perhaps a few fresh faces will show up at the winter window to supplement Arteta’s charge for the title in the second half of the campaign.
