Arsenal returned to winning ways after edging out Crystal Palace again, this time in Premier League fixtures. Yet again, after back-to-back draws against Fulham and Everton, the Gunners were in dire need of three points, and they got them just as they were level with Liverpool ahead of their showdown with Tottenham on Sunday.

Gabriel Jesus scored first to add the goal from a well-taken finish just inside the box, the hat-trick hero against the same opponents recently. The Gunners had barely led before Ismaila Sarr drew his team level again; only to have Jesus score once more, seconds later.

Arsenal were now again in front, and Mikel Arteta suffered a massive loss when Bukayo Saka was substituted due to a hamstring injury. Without him, Arsenal surged forward and Kai Havertz rounded it out to a third with the swiftest reaction to Jesus’ header against the woodwork.

Afterwards, Gabriel Martinelli deflected a Declan Rice-like effort into the net for Arsenal’s fourth, as the latter grabbed a fifth late on. The Gunners, thanks to this victory, challenged Chelsea and Liverpool, which face Everton and Tottenham on Sunday, respectively.

Verdict

Almost all the top teams have very difficult fixtures against each other after the clash with Ipswich over Christmas. Arsenal’s Mikel Arteta’s team could not have found any better fixture than at the Emirates Stadium against the newly promoted team, especially following their recent home defeat against Newcastle.

After that, the Gunners are set to visit Brentford on New Years Day as the Bees lose their unbeaten streak at home. Three days later, another trip south follows with Arsenal scheduled to face Brighton at Amex Stadium.

The next ones are two home streaks, but certainly quite tough ones: North London Derby against Tottenham within three days and clash against Aston Villa, who beat the Gunners at Emirates Stadium last season.
