While it is good that the Springbok captain Siya Kolisi’s possible return to Cape Town progressed from ‘high-level’ talks between Sharks and Stormers administrators, it is not a done deal yet.
Media reports have indicated that Kolisi was all set to make a second-high-profile change of destination in less than a year.
Slightly accurate reports, but according to @rugby365com, “a few things still have to be ironed out” before anyone will be able to put pen to paper.
Red Disa and Roc Nations Sports International both said ‘no comment’ to questions in relation to the reports.
However, according to information obtained by @rugby365com, some ‘exploratory talks’ have been conducted and these are ‘progressing positively’.
The main reason Kolisi wants to come back to Cape Town is to be with his children who are living with his ex-wife, Rachel.
The 33-year-old loose forward has 92 Tests -61 as captain- and return to the Sharks just over three months ago after his controversial stay in France that went on with numerous reports of quarrels inside academy at Racing 92.
Racing President Jacky Lorenzetti publicly criticized Kolisi, saying he was “invisible” in a particular match and complaining of weight fluctuation.
Vincent Mai, a close friend and financial backer during Kolisi’s schooling at Grey High in Port Elizabeth, claimed to have stumped up the more than ZAR17 million release fee that the French club asked for earlier in 2021.
Back in Durban, the Kolisi Family- Siya and Rachel- confirmed they were getting divorced.
The Bok captain made some inroads in the Sharks and had some great games playing as a No.8.
However, the fact that his kids are not around is a major issue, and there are talks to have him back in Cape Town – where it all started more than a decade ago.
