Tennessee football social media account goes viral for trying to hide the identity of a Vols quarterback after an interception

Tennessee Vols football program went viral on Sunday for concealing the identity of a quarterback who threw an interception during practice.

The Tennessee account posted a video of an interception that defensive back Colton Hood came down with during a reVols fans, unsurprisingly, immediately zoomed in on the video in an effort to figure out which quarterback was responsible for the interception.

Those fans, however, were surprised to see that the quarterback is blurred out in the video.

Honestly, that’s probably a good call by the social media team.

Tennessee is in the early stages of a three-man quarterback battle between UCLA transfer Joey Aguilar, redshirt freshman Jake Merklinger, and true freshman George MacIntyre. Interceptions are going to happen in practice — and an interception in early August isn’t going to determine who wins this quarterback battle.

There’s also the issue of fairness. I’m sure that’s not the only interception that’s been thrown so far in fall practice. It would be unfair to show one quarterback throwing an interception, but not the other two.

Tennessee’s social media team is catching some shade from some opposing fan bases in the comments — and hey, that’s part of what makes college football so much fun — but I think they absolutely made the right call to blur out the quarterback.
